ENTREPRENEURSHIP: coverage
I've tried to make The O-Book more journalistic through the way we cover events in the school. Before, it was very cut-and-dry, with one page for football and one for chess team. Now we report on activities more like journalists.
news coverage.
This year especially, I have tried to assign events that are more reflective of "news." Especially with the presidential election, there seemed to be a lot of local events (rally, protests, etc) which students are participating in. Likewise I've tried to document events like AcaDeca state finals, where our team did remarkably well, as they would have been in the local or school newspaper.
The boys locker room.
Our varsity football team had a phenomenal season last year, achieving an 8-0 record for the first time since 1917. At the homecoming game against familiar foe Omaha Burke, the team was behind 10-7 right before half-time. The atmosphere was intense, and photographer and I planned to sneak in to the locker room half-time talk to take some never-before-seen shots. Before the buzzer went off, our quarterback threw a fantastic touchdown throw that put us in the lead -- making the half-time shots all the more spectacular.
school data.
I have also tried to do more student life coverage that provides information about school data and helps current and future readers of The O-Book better understand our school. From asking how students get to school to knowing how many zip codes there are to knowing how students would vote in the election, this data is more representative of our student body.
