I'm no expert in photography. My strength lies in sitting before a computer and arranging photos and copy to look good together. But there is something inexplicably remarkable about being able to capture a moment in one image, with feelings of despair or joy or relief or wonder. I have never excluded myself from covering events that are less interesting - take, for instance, a freshman basketball game - just because I'm editor. I want to show my staff members that I love taking photographs, because they are crucial in modern journalism.
